Partial Electrical Rewire

When you rebuild or renovate a portion of your property, you’ll need to conduct some partial rewiring to accommodate the new layout.

If decision about partial rewiring is followed by EICR – Electrical Installation Condition Report or Fault Finding it will highlight what part of the electrical installation will need to be repaired or replaced.

The following observations could be the reason for rewiring:

  • degradation of cable insulation
  • dated rubber, fabric or lead insulation
  • damage, wear and tear
  • not accessible joints with loose connections
  • water damage
  • fire damage

We have the necessary knowledge and skills to inspect and rewire circuits in your home or business place. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

All additions and some of the alterations are notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations. Part P applies also to electrical installations carried out in outbuildings such as detached garages, sheds and greenhouses.

At Ohmatic Electrical we are certified and fully qualified to undertake any electrical work at home or in your business place.

Electrical Addition or Alteration

Addition to the electrical installation is when you require your electrical installation to be extended by adding one or more new circuits to your existing Consumer Unit (Fuse box). It happens often when you are planning to:

  • Install additional socket outlet (new circuit)
  • install new cooker circuit
  • install new oven circuit
  • install any other special appliance circuit
  • build loft extension
  • have outbuilding in your garden
  • build kitchen extension
  • have electrics in the garage

Alteration to the existing electrical installation is often when you are planning to upgrade your existing system with new parts, modify or alter it:

  • replacement of socket outlets and light switches
  • replacement of light fittings
  • addition of socket outlet or light fitting (existing circuit)
  • Consumer Unit (fuse box) replacement

Special Installations or locations

What is special location?

Part P states that the special location is a room containing a bath or shower, swimming pool or a sauna heater.

Any addition or alteration to an existing circuit in above locations need to be notified to LABC by electrician under Part P Building Regulations.

Electrical works you may require in special locations are:

  • installation of extractor fan
  • installation of light fittings
  • installation of bathroom cabinet
  • installation of shaver socket
  • installation of electric shower
  • installation of electric heater
  • installation of electric underfloor heating

The bathroom is probably the most dangerous room in the house when it comes to electrical safety. Wet skin reduces the body’s resistance to electric shocks and the consequences are much more severe.

It is why is so important that you hire experienced and fully qualified electrician to undertake the electrical work in special location even if just replacement is required.

Contact us if you require any electrical work to be done in your bathroom, or any location where excessive amount of water is likely to occur under normal working conditions.
